Elissa Sadgrove

I use the formal language of commercial graphics and combine this interest with autobiographical themes to create works that respond playfully and analytically to my situation. My works are an odd and incongruous mixing of metaphors for my experience driven by wry humour and absolute devotion to symbol/pictogram design.

I have lived and worked in Melbourne, New York and Chicago since completing a Post-Graduate Diploma at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1996. I have exhibited in artist-run, commercial and public spaces. My work is held in private collections, the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and the Bundanon Trust. In 2003 I was Artist-In-Residence at Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s property Bundanon in Nowra, New South Wales, which sparked the desire to live and work away from the city.
