Helene Athanasiadis

After graduating from RMIT Fashion Design in 1989, Helene worked in various facets of creative fashion, including costume design & photographic styling.  In 1999 she took a sudden career change & enrolled in an archaeological degree at La Trobe University graduating in 2006 with a double honours degree in Archaeology & Art History.  For the next eight years Helene worked  full time as an archaeologist  throughout Victoria.   Although Helene occasionally still freelances as an archaeologist,  she spends most of her time in her home studio creating  fine art photography & mixed media collages.  In both mediums she is guided by archaeological concepts; layered, stained & aged, all of which are rendered in muted & textured tones.  Her latest body of work is a series of abstract mixed media works on paper that are inspired by the rural landscapes & botanics of Central Victoria.
